The Hood Canal bridge, connecting the Port Townsend area to the Seattle  area is closing from May 15 to June 30 this year.

Productive weekend: 6 hrs. of yard work on Sat., hacking ivy from privacy fence at intersection of our 3 properties up the hill. The ivy had put up TREES, 5 ft. tall trees with berries and half-dollar sized trunks. 1 Forester-full of ivy dump run, 3 large green waste cans + 2 25-gal. extra cans filled with ivy.

Bonus: I can haz Katerina bead! She came over and dug up volunteer trees on my property: olive, lots of oaks, cotoneaster (2 types), I forget what else. We had a lovely trip to the dump. It's one of the best resource recovery centers in the USA, and has a working farm to process the grocery store waste: peacocks, turkeys, hogs, lots of different varieties of chickens. The male peacocks and turkeys were in fine form, at least 5 were showing off their tails (tho' one to a cement birdbath; they are quite near-sighted). We feed the hogs stale bread from the local sourdough bread bakery. They are the most intelligent domesticated animal, smarter than dogs, but they sure don't look like it. It's the tiny eyes. Little piggy eyes are not something we think of associating with intelligence. Large eyes = intelligence is our instinct.

And then KBead and I wandered around American Soil Products and ooooh'd and ahhh'd over pretty rocks. Since they allow the taking of samples, we had lots of sampes for KB to take home with her.  Then to my biking friends' house, where  there a forest of buckeyes coming up in her back forty. She tossed a bunch of buckeyes out and they are sprouting like crazy back there.  We were unsuccessful in digging up any redwood plants. I think that they seed from the roots of the parents. There are several bay trees there, but no saplings that weren't too big for us to dig up.

Sunday, I cleaned out the garage, even shop-vac'd spider webs from the ceiling rafters . I can walk through it unimpeded now!  No more clutter attacking me and spraining my ankle. Now to sort through boxes and declutter.

The kitten is Lily. It fits her. She is doing well. I think she'll be ready for adoption clinic in another week or two.
