Nothing but Costumes is having a sale on Guy Fawkes' masks: http://nothingbutcostumes.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=7980&currency=USD

For the heck of it, I Googled a few names, and a few turned up listed as investors at a website re former Scn'tologist Reed Slat kin fraud conviction for Ponzi scheme (involving Earth link). http://www.slatkinfraud.com/invest_1.shtml
It's an interesting document to browse. I could add some details, hmm. Here's a list of the "Top 75" investors. It's a Who's Who for prominent Scnt'gsts, as is the investors link, but then there are people mixed in who have nothing to do with Scn. but got mixed up in the investment scheme, like Peter Coyote. My heart nearly stopped seeing him on the list. Oh Noes! at first, but YAY he is NOT involved in Scn.   http://www.slatkinfraud.com/75_final.htm

Good grief, I am so glad it cooled off last night. I'm probably alone in having hated the hot hot hot of the weekend. Sunday was close to unbearable. I'm nursing along many tender plants, and had to water twice a day Sat. and Sunday.  I have been hoping so hard for more rain, but it's looking more and more like we won't have any rain again until fall.  I thought I'd look to see how valid  my perception is of too-hot, not-enough-rain this year.

Storage capacity for 2008 (so far) is 92%, compared to 2007's 86% at the same time last year, and average for this time of 90%   http://www.marinwater.org/documents/waterwatch080413.pdf.  It's isn't great, but it isn't too bad.  It's trending towards trouble if we don't get a rainy year this coming winter.

Annual rainfall is much better than my perception of it, although not great compared to the average. 8 inches = X acre feet and I'm not finding a definition of acre-foot easily, drat. Maybe later.

Annual Rainfall
(at Lake Lagunitas)

 Total

 July 1, 2007 – April 13, 2008

40.76 inches

 For previous year

32.65 inches

 For average year to date

48.57 inches

Historically, there was one severe drought, in 1976 - 77, plus a more modest dry period from 1989 - 94. The winter of 2006 - 07 was extremely dry, however, and the current year started off similarly. At the end of December it appeared that MMWD might face severe rationing for 2008, but a very wet January has removed the immediate threat.

In sum: It's not that bad, so it's just me fretting. I need to give up the longing for more free water from the sky, please, and switch mental gears to summer mode.

eta later: wow, and now it's a bitter cold windy day! Hello, March!
A post on another community sent me in the direction of The Daily Coyote, the blog of Shreve Stockton. She lives in Wyoming with a Eli the cat and Charlie, a wild-born coyote that was delivered to her doorstep as a pup after his parents were shot for killing sheep. Her photography wonderful and wow, what a cute pup and handsome near-adult Charlie is!

She also rode a Vespa cross country from SF to NYC. Her blog about that here: http://vespa-vagabond.blogspot.com/
