Good grief, I am so glad it cooled off last night. I'm probably alone in having hated the hot hot hot of the weekend. Sunday was close to unbearable. I'm nursing along many tender plants, and had to water twice a day Sat. and Sunday. I have been hoping so hard for more rain, but it's looking more and more like we won't have any rain again until fall. I thought I'd look to see how valid my perception is of too-hot, not-enough-rain this year.
Storage capacity for 2008 (so far) is 92%, compared to 2007's 86% at the same time last year, and average for this time of 90% http://www.marinwater.org/documents/waterwatch080413.pdf. It's isn't great, but it isn't too bad. It's trending towards trouble if we don't get a rainy year this coming winter.
Annual rainfall is much better than my perception of it, although not great compared to the average. 8 inches = X acre feet and I'm not finding a definition of acre-foot easily, drat. Maybe later.
Historically, there was one severe drought, in 1976 - 77, plus a more modest dry period from 1989 - 94. The winter of 2006 - 07 was extremely dry, however, and the current year started off similarly. At the end of December it appeared that MMWD might face severe rationing for 2008, but a very wet January has removed the immediate threat.

In sum: It's not that bad, so it's just me fretting. I need to give up the longing for more free water from the sky, please, and switch mental gears to summer mode.
eta later: wow, and now it's a bitter cold windy day! Hello, March!
