I had to take the tabby to the 24-hr vet at midnight last night, because I can't get in to see her regular vet until Sat., and that's when I got home. She has an eye infection. I had blood and urine drawn for full panels that her regular vet can decipher for me Sat. She looks way too old and ratty and isn't acting normal and I don't think it's just the ongoing cat social struggles. She is the lowest in everyone's pecking order except mine, poor sweet girl.
Had a 9 AM conf. call on some family biz this am, only, the other parties are on the east coast. Er. The good news is, I went right back to sleep after we agreed that 9 AM Pacific time was still 3 hrs. away.
I'm starting to suspect that I wake up the mockingbird when I get home. He lives in the neighbor's oak tree and both my car in the driveway and lights in the LR windows could disturb him in his tree. Because I was wired after the vet visit, I stayed up until 2 or so watching most of Anderson Cooper's interview of Angelina Jolie.
Bits of it reminded of an SNL skit.
Angelina (face shot): "...and that's when I decided that I would help refugees."
Anderson (body shot, in khaki's, in front of refugee camp): "After visiting this refugee camp, Angelina Jolie said, '...and that's when I decided that I would help refugees.' More after a commercial."

Anderson (close up): "After visiting a refugee camp in [name} during the filming of her movie [name], Angelina Jolie said, "...and that's when I decided that I would help refugees."
Angelina (different angle, medium shot): "After visiting a refugee camp in [name} during the filming of [name], that's when I decided that I would help refugees."

I used to think she was odd, and perhaps she still is, but I've grownt to really like her. She seems grounded, to have thought it all through, and she's doing good, as best as she can, for all the right reasons. I respect her.
So, anyway, the mocking bird was So. Loud. the whole time! It's been warm, so I left the window facing him open (that I usually close). If that had been my bedroom instead of my LR? I can understand James Thurber's cartoons of a man wanting to kill after too much of a mockingbird. LOUD LOUD. LOUD LOUD. He was singing when I got this AM, too. I wonder if he ever quit?
The water on the Bay was flat and green and sparkly and beautiful as I crossed. No wind. There's a corresponding cloud of reddish air pollution hugging the East Bay skyline. Tomorrow's the first Spare the Air day - Bay Area peeps FREE MORNING TRANSIT. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2006/06/01/BAGLFJ5I311.DTL
I jumped off the f'wy to run a quick errand in Berkeley, luckily. I easily avoided f'wy gridlock on the frontage road. A truck was on fire, like, 6 feet of flames raging out of the engine compartment. It was astonishing. The fireman were all standing around so I guess it wasn't in danger of blowing up. (LOTS of air pollution there.)
I love puttering around the house. At dinner out last night with fellow employee/mgmt. reps to celebrate finalizing our next MOU, one more person told me how helpful he's found it to have a financial planner. M has had one for a couple of years and she swears by it. Now A recommends one too. Hmmm. It would be nice to (a) retire and (b) have enough money to not have to worry about it all the time! so (c) I could putter away as much as I want.
