Notes from the Tropic of Cancer
May. 8th, 2006 06:59 pmI pulled an all-nighter Sat. working at home, getting ready to go, cleaning the house for the house-petsitter, and working on work at work from 3 to 6 am. Oy. Hooray for napping on the plane, and 10 hours of sleep last night. Sis has contractors working at her house. Her neighbors have almost finished their new house, are not in the country now, and are letting the boys and I stay there. It}s a fabulous house. (hmm. this keyboard has no apostrophe.)
But as usual, the big fun was swimming: in the ocean, for nearly an hour, for about a half a mile, from La Terrazola up to and around the big rock at the end of North Beach, onto the secret beach, and back via foottrail (barefoot! without glasses!) back to the north beach. It was fabulous. The water is really very warm, 72? maybe warmer, very comfortable. I had asked this guy swimming near Jim and me if he wanted to swim with us, and the two of us did it. Jim went back relatively early. Good thing there were some houses to use as landmarks. Distances sure look different when you are in the water.
After, while tipping back beer and water and chatting with John and his wife Valerie, Dwayne spotted water spouts. There was pod of dolpin feeding out in the bay. SO COOL! We could not tell for the longest time they were whales or dolphins, then we could see them jumping. John jumped into the water and swam out there! He was a speck. I am not that intrepid, or in shape, also it was getting towards the end of the day. Feeding time. I stay out of the ocean then. He was fine, did not see them but he is quite the wild and wooly adventurer. I hope I run into him at the beach again. If I am swimming by myself, I do not go far away from where other people are swimming.
A boat pulling a boarder came by. Unusual for here. There isn{t supposed to be that kind of recreational boating here, so dunno what that is about. A huge marina and 700 units of housing are going in in the town just south of here. Apparently the city government here is holding the line on that kind of development. Good for them.
Off to find an icy drink.
