Apr. 28th, 2006 08:40 pm7 work days after starting my new job (at my old work place), and 1 week (5 work days) before starting a 2-week vacation, I took 2 days off and tagged along as a guest of a friend at a conference in her field. The timing is terrible, but I couldn't pass it up. It was held at my favorite Lake Tahoe resort, one of the oldest ones, with, I am told, a decidedly European feel. Rooms come with a breakfast buffet, which includes their famous cheese blitzes, and we conference & guest attendees also rec'd lunch, dinner, and a hosted happy hour (though they called it something else) with the package, and the setting is in a beautiful hillside forest. I'm burying my lead though: the place has a gorgeous outdoor Olympic-sized heated swimming pool. At Lake Tahoe! Swimming in 72 degree water while looking at snow banks & forest is near the top of the list of pleasurable experiences for me. Taking a break in the giant tiled jacuzzi is a nice fillip, and the hotel/resort is fine, but it's the pool that gets me. It's FABULOUS.
Driving back, we started talking about our favorite hotels. All mine are ranked by swimming pool. One of those things I'm never going to get around to doing, but I think would be fun to do, is write a book or create a website that ranks hotels, campgrounds, RV parks, and backpacking spots by pool and/or hot spring or jacuzzi and describes community swimming pools and gives their hours, location, and other good info.
