My nephew is an amazing young man. He's really, really talented, and this isn't just aunt-ly pride speaking. His senior recital (Masters in Music Composition) was yesterday and it was *fabulous.* There were 6 pieces: solo jazz improvisation, jazz quintet, a brass band, a chamber piece, and 2 orchestral pieces. The last orchestral piece is called User Friendly and it totally should be played behind the opening credits of any movie like Down With Love. Not only was music fabulous, he's kind, generous, thoughful, and gracious. (IOW, he's not like the rest of us squabbling bunch!)
He plays all over North Beach, the Haight, and with local big bands, jazz bands, and also works with some theater groups. If you ever have a chance to see him, take it: http://jekabson.tripod.com/ If jazz and theater interests you, email him and ask to be added to his email list for upcoming shows. They're v. short and only sent a day or two before gigs.
