Hoo boy, what a day/week. One of my family members wants to borrow $20,000, my mother has the intestinal flu, the WBB (world's best boss)'s mother had an aneurysm and isn't expected to make it, my perf review is pending, I had a migraine-aura attack this AM that went away with many Advil, a pot of real caffeinated tea and viewing 2 episodes of first season Gilmore Girls, and now that I'm at work, there's a ton of work. On the plus side, Katerinabead gave me something fun that I just looked at last night, and whee! thanks Katerina for future fun; I can avoid the borrowing-sibling for a little bit while I think about this; I'm having a massage on Saturday for my neck, which neck-hurting is why I think my head broke this AM; and a friend/co-worker who is a musician is performing with the Kronos Quartet Saturday night and I'm going. So, fun Saturday! On Thursday, the rest of the season 1 DVDs of GG are supposed to come in and I can't wait to see them. I love this show. Uh, back to work, since I just got here today.

Temple Grandin: A Key to Animal Behavior

http://www.npr.org/features/feature.php?wfId=4278538&sourceCode=RSS
Temple Grandin is one of the nation's top designers of livestock facilities. She is also autistic. In her 1995 book Thinking in Pictures, she described how her inner-autistic world led her to develop an empathy for how animals cope. Grandin is currently an assistant professor of animal sciences at Colorado State University in Fort Collins. Her new book is Animals in Translation: Using the Mysteries of Autism to Decode Animal Behavior.

This woman has done more to improve the conditions for factory-farmed mammals than any of the animal rights groups with whom I used to demonstrate and to whom I used to/some I still do donate to. I can't wait to read this book. She's speaking locally soon; must look up date/location and go.
