Hmm, a room temp. baked sweet potato makes a fabulous mid-morning snack. It's probably good for you, too.
My weekend was pretty good. Cut for descriptions of hiking.
I couldn't get to sleep Friday night due to the half-shot decaf in a latte. Drat, I really like the taste too. Maybe she used caf? I finally took 1/4 an Ambien ~4 AM.
I slept really late, YAY, and headed out hiking from the DP trailhead in advance of rain predicted that night. I could see a huge dark cloud over Mt. Tam, but it was thick fog/low clouds, not rain. I had a jones for Concrete Pipe Road, and got there via the fire road for a change.
Hardly anyone uses Concrete Pipe between Five Points and Fish Gulch, so I had it almost to myself, which was the plan. I wanted to walk through the redwood grove and walk by the big rock ravine.
There are two ravines, different trails, out from the DP trailhead where I've always had a tingle on the back of my neck as I walk past them. 15 years ago, I would think to myself, a predator used to live back there when this was wild. Now that there are mountain lion warning signs posted about, I think to myself, a mountain lion lives back there. One of them is off Concrete Pipe. That particular ravine looks primordial. There's a house sized rock that kind of leans out over the trail covered in moss with a few trees growing on top, a small stream and waterfall down its right side, and thick brush up into the ravine. It's gorgeous.
Past the rock is a redwood grove, then a flat stretch before you hit Madrone grove. I was a Good Scout and cleared an area of Scotch broom near a culvert. The area is covered in ferns and wild iris, all of which will get squeezed out if broom moves in. CP hasn't been completely taken over by broom, yet. (The rangers want anyone, everyone to pull broom where ever they can & want.) A few people walked me while I was a weeding tornado. One couple hurried past me quickly, probably thinking "scary crazy lady," but two equistrians smiled & nodded and one said, "Thank you VERY much." That was nice! (I was so involved, I forgot to check out what kind of horse, saddle & bit. Shocking!) On the way out, I checked the duff under the redwood grove and strategically removed dozens of tiny broom seedlings. Broom is kind of like fire; if you keep it from jumping certain lines, you might be able to keep it at bay.
It was getting dark as I headed down Oak Tree Junction Trail. ::sigh:: I used to hike this until twilight All The Time. I need to do it more, again. I probably should find out what is the latest on the lions, 'cause dusk isn't the greatest time to be out, though this is relatively close to the trailhead. One's been seen alot at Mt. Barnabe lately (not here, but near my sister's house).
That was a 3 or 4 mile hike. I own a pedometer; I should find it and start the 10,000 steps thing.
Then I hit the Macy's One Day Sale from 9PM to midnight, and got shirts for work & new Jockeys, which was the plan. We're not exchanging gifts in the family, and honestly? It's a relief. My one impulse buy was a beautiful large hammered copper tray. With the sale, on top of being on sale already, plus a coupon discount, + a charge card discount, it was only $7! I couldn't pass it up. Now to find someone who would like to own it so I can give it to them! Anyone want it?
Sunday, more hiking, well, walking. I walked the Corte Madera Creek paved trail from the hospital to Ross to NC Green Park and back. Wow, tired feet and legs. I have to get out more; I have a 10 mile walk at the Big Sur Marathon coming up.
