Wild Kingdom: Lizards & Cats
Oct. 17th, 2008 06:05 pmI asked my cleaning lady to keep an eye out for the lizard. She found it in the living room!! I got home too late to call last night; this morning, she said she'd vacuumed it up. I cut the bag open outside and there it was! Alive and well, tho' missing its tail, which are designed to fall off when attacked. (Tail nerves twitch and keep the attention of the attacker, while the lizard makes an escape). I put the lizard on rocks on duff at the base of a rosemary plant, and it burrowed in a bit. I made a cave of broken pottery over it for extra shelter, and left water-soaked spongy material in front of it. Please let it have the good sense to keep hidden and not run on the hillside where Java could catch it again.
"My" Oakland ferals are getting so friendly! It's partly familiarity with me, but mostly because they aren't starving to death. I love Java but I wish I could take these cats home. Oh! Last week, Trust Autoworks man and I knocked on the homeless brothers' squat garage, because I heard a kitten crying behind the door, and they let us in. The garage connects to the lower unit of the house, looks like. They agreed to look for the kitten and put it outside so it could get to Tortoiseshell Mom, and let me look around. They're keeping the place spotlessly clean and neat. I feel better about them being there now. I wish I knew if there were 5 kittens to start with or 4. There are 4 now. I think White Cat is going to have kittens soon.
