Strictly speaking, the weekend found me variously lolling around the house, trying to tame stacks of papers and ignoring all the furniture, etc. that my sister has deposited at my house lately, with a foray to an art and wine festival on the ground of Falkirk Mansion on Saturday, which was fun enough given the good company of compadres G and V. Some idiot tossing his beer all over me dampened the mood and clothing,  but MR called after I'd had time to shower/change clothing and except for G, who was in a car accident on the way there (she's fine), we convened for dinner at the yummy  original Sol Food.

Monday and Tuesday, I was at the Stinson Beach cottage and oh! what a nice time. I hopped on my bike Tues. morning and rode to Bolinas and back, with a run down Seadrift to the end and back. It was delicious to stand on both sides of the running deep tidal channel and look at where I was and where I'd been. It must've been about a 25ish mile ride. If only Bikely.com would freaking WORK for me, I could tell. Grrr, cruddy map tools. This route is about as flat as you'll find anywhere, which is why I tried it. It was great.

I love California. Sharp healthy scent of the tidal flats, Buffano-esque sea lion poses as they haul out in the morning sun, an osprey perched on the phone line, mist turning to light rain around the curve into Bolinas, an honor-system organic vegetable & flower stand, & the nursery behind it - spider webs perfect and visible glinting in the muted sun; surf camp: cute little boys either digging in the sand, boogy boarding, or getting a lesson by the channel marker + some very nice looking men in wetsuits; soy latte & fresh blueberry muffin with the daily Chronicle; very few cars passed me on Route 1 and the ones that did were polite (not as polite? motorcycles, who scared me half to death buzzing by too close & fast), the warmth as sun broke through the fog, aka low clouds, sparkling on the lagoon and Pacific Ocean, the fishing trawler close in to Stinson Beach itself, calling every gull to wheel and shout around it. Hey, there's a central lagoon at Seadrift! I did not know that! The houses out there? Those are not my people, though the houses are gorgeous.

Nice weekend, nice vacation days off.
