It was so pretty crossing the SF Bay yesterday.  It was a perfect 70 degrees and sunny in Marin and the water on the Marin side of the Bay was a flat glossy gunmetal. About 1/3 way over the bridge towards Richmond, the fog started to wisp out at the edges where I was driving into it.Below, the water reflected dark green where the sun struck it, and below the fog, the water looked very dark and very cold.  Above to  the east were high wispy  clouds in a very blue sky . It was like flying into clouds only driving as the fog gradually became the entire low pressing sky.

We're in summertime weather pattern, so the California Current is upwelling against the coast,  http://www.mbari.org/news/homepage/2004/cimt-upwelling_moorings_350.jpg, and the supercold water is creating big banks of fog when it hits the warm air moving out from the land mass. Which is to say, it's sunny in Marin, and foggy in San Francisco and the East Bay, esp. in El Cerrito and Richmond Annex area, and Berkeley.

I forgot to mention earlier that the crickets finally hatched/matured  or whatever  mid-July. If it's a warm enough  night, I go to sleep to a chorus of crickets. Also, the wild carrot/Queen Anne's lace has started to bloom. The foliage is like a delicate fern. The flowers are about the same size as the Alaska Shasta daisies, so it looks as if the same flowers have been blooming since May. Hmm, I need to find a something similarly weedy and tough that has color.

The Perseid Meteor Shower is coming up with the peak Monday night after the moon sets at 2 AM.

The real meat of the show comes during the predawn hours when the Moon is down and the radiant is high.

Predawn rates for observers with truly dark skies may exceed 100 Perseids per hour (West Coast of North America and/or Eastern Asia may be favored this year), with a nice sprinkling of sporadic and minor shower meteors added to the mix.

My plans are to go camping at a hot spring/new age center above  Napa and set an alarm to get up and look for them in the middle of the night. I've not been to this place before, but it's my first solo camping trip and it seems like a safe place. I'll find out if it's awkward wearing clothes in a clothing-optional place, among other things.
