Here's wildlife-biologist friend's info about ducks, theodosia:
Adopt a duck! Ducks and geese will collect ducklings, or the ducklings
collect the parents. They just stick together, even different species
- all the same genus - such as a mallard and the European barnyard ducks
and or Muscovy ducks. Ducks, some more than others, are known to lay eggs
in the others nests. One female could try to incubate 40 eggs! Typical
number of eggs per nest by one ducks is about 20. This is another
reason you may see one parent or 2 geese parents with a group of older and
younger goslings.
