Sep. 6th, 2005 12:47 pmThe valuation report is back from the forensic arborist. The tree was 22 inches in diameter and could've been worth up to $15,500. Location and condition factors are less than 100%, so it cuts it back to $11,500. Um, wow! Next: the hard part, talking to/getting a settlement from the neighbor. EEK!
Books read:
User I.D. by Jenefer Shute, is a fun, appalling, interesting novel about an NYC community college prof. whose identity is stolen by a low-life couple in So. Cal. The police are useless so the prof's computer geek lover installs a trap door in the thieves' computer when they access the prof's email, and then sets out juicy bait in the form of a fake credit report. It was a fast, interesting read and probably should have prompted me to change all my passwords, though it didn't.
Shopaholic and Sister by Sophie Kinsella, on books on tape, is another perfect marriage of material and reader. If I had more time, I'd go get a different book, but I don't, and the reader makes it enjoyable enough to get me to laugh out loud when I'm not completely disgusted with the main character's shopaholic behaviour and wishing I could slap her. It's a British B- chick flick in print.
