I have the bad habit of not working on my house much unless/until someone is coming to visit. Then I get all adrenalized and go to town on various projects on the to-do list. A friend is getting married this coming weekend. Friends of hers from Australia, whom I'd never met before, are staying at my house for a week.

I procrastinated until last weekend, when I kicked into high gear. Things done: fixed two plumbing items, cleaned/drained/fixed relay on hot tub so now it's clean & hot again. Mondo hours of yard work (ouch, my back). Cleaned outdoor chairs. Primed the screen door, & painted the front door, sill, and French doors. Hardest of all: tackled the stacks of mail, magazines, papers etc. and threw out almost everything. Then, on a roll, I weeded out my closet. Woo Hoo! My wonderful neighbor cut 5 vases worth of flowers for me! Lavendar and gardenia smell especially wonderful; white bunch roses in a green vase remind me of my favorite Van Gogh; orange lilies in a deep blue vase, and assorted blue, deep purple and white flowers in a periwinkle vase = beautiful.
I love [livejournal.com profile] overheardnyc in general. This is marvelous:

College girl: The real reason I went to San Francisco is that I wanted to go to Japan, but that was as far as I could afford.

I think every city should be represented. Okay, maybe not every city, but major regions or major cities. Northern Calif., Southern Calif., San Francisco Bay Area.

Could someone LJ/computer savvy help me start an OverheardSFBayArea?

Oy, never mind about the overheard sf. It's a whole big Thing in NYC, a feed not just an LJ thing. Der.

Now that I have speakers on my computer at work, I can start listening to music that I've never heard. Well, after everyone else has gone home and the cleaning people are cleaning around me, like tonight. I listened to Sleater-Kinney for the first time a minute ago. Maybe I'll go find out who They Might Be Giants are next.

Speaking of music, allow me to promote my nephew, the jazz trumpter, Erik Jekabson. There was a very nice mention of him in a article in the Chronicle recently.
