Oh good, LJ is back up! It's going to take me a couple of days to read what I missed over the long weekend.

The long weekend was fun. I had a massage Saturday afternoon, which got the kinks out of my aching neck. I couldn't stand how lazy I was being, so on the spur of the moment, walked from the town I was in to the next town over for a stretch and bowl of soup once I got there. It was SO cold and damp, but the hodge-podge "emergency clothing" in my car did the trick of keeping me warm. I veered off on a different route into F-x, looking for a bridge I'd seen once before, and found it. It's fun explore by myself since I have a good sense of direction and am not easily lost, plus enjoy adding to my mental maps. En route, I FINALLY located the defunct F-x Town and Country Club that is constantly being argued about re: planning/local gov't/real estate development. Cool!

Sunday, it was hot at home. I could've done yard work all day, but instead got some work done at the office, then off to suelac's surprise party that evening, which was very fun and I wouldn't have missed for the world.

Redbud and narcissus are blooming now.

Monday, I more than doubled the walk from Sat. by walking from my house to F-x and back with a friend. Hoo boy, my feet were sore by the end, which tells me I need to do this much more often. Then off to see the Hotel Rwanda with my sis, followed by drinks at the Club, where we ran into a mutual friend, which was fun. HR was horrifying but not the tear-jerker I thought it would be. Don Cheadle is excellent as is Nick Nolte. After seeing that, I'm resolved to donate again now to the foundation that makes micro-loans and grants to women in Africa instead of to tsunami aid, as soon as I dig out its name again. Drat. I thought I had it bookmarked. Grr.

Back to work.
edit: Monday's walk was about 8 miles. Yay!
This is the one I was thinking about:

I read about it in an article about Natalie Portman last year. Not this article, though this article is interesting, about philanthropy in the entertainment industry.

This year, Lee worked with CAA client Natalie Portman, who was passionate about fighting poverty. Lee then connected her with FINCA, a microlending institution in Washington that provides $100 loans to women in developing countries to help them start small businesses. Portman has now traveled to Guatemala and Uganda as an ambassador of hope for the organization to raise public awareness about its programs.
