Oh man, Jet Blue just rolled out a new promotion: from Oakland, $99 to Boston or NY; $89 to DC; $39 to Long Beach. I want to jump on a plane and go to all of them. Course, what I should be doing is making reservations for my trip to Cabo San Lucas in Oct. and cancel the Tgiving reservations in Hawaii. I wish the diving was better in Mexico. The sand falls at Land's End in Cabo are cool but I've seen them and it's not worth it twice. My diamond shoes are so tight!

The movie Open Water? Years ago, I was on a dive boat with someone who told us either he and a buddy or someone he knew were abandoned by a Mexican dive boat. They were only about couple of miles off shore and could see it, so dumped their belts & kicked in, painfully, and chewed the guy out when they found him. Hmm. Would it be a good thing to get rid of the tanks, too? I would think you'd want to keep them with your ~500 still in it, just in case you needed to go down for some reason. We were taught to go down and lie on the ocean floor if sharks came around (in Monterey). They attack from below, so the theory is that they can't attack you if you're down in the sand or rocks.

That's the thing with the barrier reefs off Australia and the Yucatan Peninsula - you have to go so far out on a boat to get to the fringe, since it continually grows offshore. I've never been diving anywhere where you couldn't see a land mass. Have you been diving on open water/no land mass visible? Where?
