My sister has been here from Sayulita, Mexico, for two months, in Piedmont, on a trade: she's at C's studio. C is in sister's vacation rental in Sayulita. Because "family is where they have to take you in," or other exact phrase is, my extra BR was the default to sister if she couldn't find a sublet or housesitting gig. ARGHH. She's moving in in a couple of days. I've lived alone for. gosh, 10 years now? after serial relationships (John, Roy, Henry) then roommates (Chris, Mona, Jane, Susan). I like living alone! no commentary or criticism on what I am doing or how I am doing it is AWESOME.
Too bad for now. To clear out 30 years of work files + assorted stuff, all has been transferred to my LR. It's horrible. Yeah, yeah, I could have weeded through them in the 2.5 months since I retired, but I've been busy having fun! She just sent an email asking me to move X on the outside deck so she can do Y in the space, and it makes me loathe her, and loathe myself. ARGH, I say, ARGH.
I have very much wanted to go to Hawaii the 2nd and 3rd weeks of Nov., and have some friends with whom I can go, but I may end up going on a southern-route camping/road trip in Oct. instead just to get out of the house while she is here. Take advantage of the built-in cat sitting, yeah, that's the ticket!
ION, the Caltrans tour of the new Bay Bridge span today was great. On a hot day? Really nice to be on a boat on the water. They are getting so close to erecting the main support beam and anchoring the deck. Then they will transfer the load, and if the self-anchoring support works the way it should, they'll remove the current "falsework" that is holding up the decks while it's being built. Then they'll disassemble all the temp falsework. The simulation of what the bridge is supposed to do during an earthquake is wild. That thing will be an E ticket ride!
We were able to drive on the new deck surface to the very end. Only our 4 cars on the ENTIRE new bridge span! Last time for that, unless we get to do it on another tour. At the end, about 30 feet away, were two ironworkers out on a girder, moving lumber walkways and tools around. Boy are they strapped into safey gear, and yet, it looks terrifying to up that high over the Bay.
The ped/bike lanes that hang off the bridge to the south are partially finished, and we got to go on those as well. No suicide prevention stuff at all. Not very high walls between ped/bike and zooming cars. I just kept thinking, lawsuit bait. Sad commentary.
The view from the bridge will be FABULOUS. It curves as it goes from EBay to Treasure Island. The decks are side by side, and one will have splendid views from cars, unlike the existing Bay Bridge, where you can't see a thing over the side girders unless you are a bus or truck.
It's too darn hot here. I am SO GLAD I don't live on the East Coast, the South, or midWest. I could not take heat like this all the time. It's supposed to be 95 tomorrow. ARGH!! Looks like we cool down by Friday. Please fog. come in sooner.
