Aug. 5th, 2009

Looks like I'll head to Harbin mid-week to camp out in the meadow to view meteors at night, then swim laps, read, try to not burn to a crisp, and soak in the hot springs during the day. I'll leave after work Monday, and go back to work on Thursday, so, odd week.

I've gone camping or backpacking for Perseids every year for the last, gosh, 15? My father died on Aug. 10, 1999, so I always think about him over the Perseids. I got word in 1999 just as I was heading out the door on a backpacking trip to Emigrant Nat'l Forest. My mother said, Go! and I did. I think my father would have liked knowing that I was out camping.

science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2009/31jul_perseids2009.htm  NASA tells you where to look in the sky.
www.spaceweather.com/  Spaceweather plots a chart showing just how many meteors there are during the peak.
www.itwire.com/content/view/26752/1066/  IT Wire reports on NASA's news that for 1 hour (during the day, so, kind of useless info), the meteor stream will double this year.
www.spaceweather.com/perseids/  and the iPhone has a Perseid app (of couse it does!), that'll show shared photos, news, tips, a sky map, viewing tips, and more.

Happy viewing, all!
