Biking Yay! Home cooking Yay!
Feb. 9th, 2009 10:56 amYesterday, I drove to Bear Valley [in Pt. Reyes] (so I could stop in L-- and pick up my sister's mail from her PO Box), rode my bike out Bear Valley Trail as far as you can on a bike, walked out to the Pacific Ocean at Arch Rock (which has lost its arch), and walked/rode back. I was inordinately pleased with myself that I RODE nearly the entire way up to Divide Meadow from the western side. As I was going down it, I was laughing to myself, saying, "You are NEVER going to ride back up this!" It's a gradual downhill slope and because it was misty/rainy/muddy, I had to work to keep going downhill. But I did bike nearly the whole way! There is ~60 foot steep hill right before the outhouses that I had to walk. Not bad! http://www.nps.gov/pore/planyourvisit/hiking_guide.htm 8.2 miles, round trip.
It was GREAT. This is my old stomping grounds, back in the day when I was leading hikes and doing 15-milers on foot regularly. The little steams are running, the mosses and ferns are green and full and happy looking, a hawk was screeching from the piney forest near the ocean, and the sun was shining by the time I got to the ocean. Polarized lenses rock, also; the ocean looks so much better through polarized glass.
It's the first time I've gone on really mt. biking - mud, the whole bit. I usually am on local roads, since my county has lots of nice ones to ride. I had to stop at a bike shop in Fairfax to ask how to clean the bike. Otherwise, I would've just hosed it off. Turns out that's not a good idea! Now I know how to clean & oil the chain, and my $10 yard sale bike rack is a perfect spot to work on the bike before it goes into the garage.
I was jamming because I had a 2 PM date for a play in Ross, but we cancelled it until next Sunday, and I had a nice hot tub at Shibui Gardens instead. Heaven! http://shibuigardens.com/
A neighbor left a package of fresh homebaked lemon pound cake on my doorstep YUM!! I had a bowl of my fresh organic vegetable stew, watched a movie, then was so tired, I got into bed at 9 PM and didn't wake up until 8:30 AM - though I woke up enough during teeth-brushing to doze/watch a little of the Grammy's.
It was a good day.
