Dec. 28th, 2008

Christmas was nice. Mom and my oldest sister came over early and slounged around the living room reading magazines (I have a big magazine habit)  while I continued cleaning up and generally puttered around in the dining room. They were happy, I was happy, it all worked out. Musician nephew and his DW arrived later, we had fresh cracked Dungeness crab for the main dish. I was inspired to cook for huge change, and made a huge platter of roasted root vegetables, split pea soup w/ tempeh bacon & carrots, & a huge pot of organic vegetable soup. Add Meyer lemons from next door to squeeze on the crab, local argula & organic spring green salad, local Gerwurtztramier, & warm crusty sourdough bread and it's an unbeatable don't-you-just-love-living-in-the-Bay-Area meal.

I was lame as a spavined horse in the gift-giving dept., which I trust none will hold against me. Tho' I did get a pair of 1/2 hr. hot tubs gift certs for a nice hot place in Albany for the newlyweds. It's just the thing for a stressful and cold day. I'd already spent the check I anticipated would come from Mom, and bought a titanium watch, Season 4 of the Office, which I'm now watching, and all of Battlestar Galactica (thanks for the tip, Daniel!).

Kate the tiny perfect tortoiseshell kitten, the pick of the litter, was adopted & delivered to her new home yesterday. I cried a little. The Cat Connection people do a thorough vetting and assure me that she's going to an excellent home. That is the goal, and I'm happy for her. She'll be an Only Cat. Sawyer & Penny are perhaps a little more interested in pleasing me, I think, which is a good thing since Sawyer could be a little too into it when the 3 of them were tearing around.

I accomplished several house to-do tasks that have been on the list for a loooong time, and that's terrific. Gosh I wish I didn't have to go back to work.
