Oct. 8th, 2004 09:50 amMt. Spurr in Alaska has grown more active lately (http://www.avo.alaska.edu/avo4/atlas/volc/spurr/spurr2004/index.html), and Reuters reports a 6.6 quake in the Philippines last night. The Philippines plate abuts to the far side of the Pacific plate. http://geology.er.usgs.gov/eastern/plates.html Ya know, earthquake-y stuff is happening all the time and it’s not good science to directly relate one thing to another when so much is unknown, and I know that, but anecdotally, I’m really wanting to lump them all together with the Parkfield quake and Mt. St. Helens eruption and wonder what the heck is coming up next. Well, at least it looks like Mt. Spurr, if it does erupt, won’t be on the same scale as Novarupta or Pinatuba.
