Our citizens emergency group mock disaster drill with the fire & police depts. went well. The mayor and vice mayor stopped by before the Italian Street Painting Festival. There was decent speechifying. We did 3 rounds of drills. Mock drills are great. On round 3, when I was a victim, the woman who found me behind the shed and down the hill with a broken leg, bleeding head & arm was shaking as she opened her medical pack. (She was also jabbing me with her long painted nails, yuck.) So, I turned instructor. Years of drills at work helped alot. I'd dealt with those "injuries" & been around hysterical "victims" before. Another victim got a police radio during her "hysteria," heh, heh. She had the other 2 groups in knots.
At the debriefing, it turned out that most of the people hanging around the police table who I thought were volunteers were actually off duty cops or police staff. The police dept. had better food, prettier equipment, lots of off duty help, and has always had a bigger budget, but the fire dept. volunteers were better prepared & more effective. There's more you *can* do via fire dept., of course.
Went to the Italian Street Painting Festival, lunch, and figured out how to use the first-ever-to-me DVD on my new DVD player. They are so cool! I had a computer appt. at the library near the park, so researched campgrounds, then hiked. The streams around Deer Park trailhead have dried up. I'll try Laurel Dell as a trailhead soon to see if there's any water left out that way. Later that night, I got through 1/3 of the DVD. I kept falling asleep.
Sunday: Hiked with K, who sold her house in a week. She's moving to Salt Spring Island. We did a long hike - Phoenix Lake looks about 10 years away from a meadow - had lunch and concocted some schemes. I went to the Live Oak Fair, hung out with friends there, ran out of time to do errands, did some laundry and started unpacking. Oh, and called everyone, made reservations, pretty much finalized the Perseid camping trip, YAY, and found a place to camp in July. I never made it to REI - I need to patch the tears Java put in the tent before I pack it away.
