The fire chief just sent me (and all the other DART graduates [local disaster response team]) a storm warning effective until tomorrow night. It's the first official notice I've gotten. Whee! Thank Dog all the eucalyptus trees up the hill have already fallen down or been cut down. I hate them. Many years ago, they were responsible for no elec or phone several times, the longest for 3 days + a live high voltage line setting the asphalt on fire (yes) for a few hours.

I am envious of everyone who has a trust fund or investments or is happily retired. I just don't want to work. I slept 8-10 hours every night over the long weekend and would be very happy to be at home, still in pjs, reading right about now. Grump.

I ran into someone I used to carpool with at Macy's on Valentine Day, where, apparently, many single women go to check out the sales in the evening. She's divorced now, and has a book on mt. biking coming out next month, plus a contract for a Lake Tahoe mt. biking book. So cool!

Sat = errands, some shopping. Sun = hiking. It drizzled on us for most of our hike. On the upper side of Lake Bon Tempe, cormorants were roosting. !! I had no idea they COULD, having webbed feet 'n' all. They were making quite a racket, sounding, not suprisingly given their necks, like someone blowing over a long sonorous tube. We stood and watched and listened for about 15 minutes. It was SO cool. I might have to get a decent pair of binocs. Little dinosaurs are so interesting. Also, we saw a newt! (It's newt crossing season, and some trails are closed to give them a chance at not being squished. They're SO slow.). I reported it, and checked out other wildlife sighting reports. The coyote was spotted again, plus an osprey, hawk, a few newts. No one's reported the bear lately.

Saw one more wild iris blooming, near the Great Grandmother Madrone tree on the way up Pilot Knob. That's two so far.

Mon. was movie day. Touching the Void is fabulous. Go see it. In America is touching. The only thing that seemed phony was one person's ebbing life force = someone else's new life force. Uh huh. Right. The two girls are fantastic. Take kleenex.
