My hot water heater went out on Saturday. Completely. The contractor I called in 3 weeks ago to look at it and give me a quote never called me back. Grrr. But my roommate's son-in-law's brother is a local plumber and he'll put a new one in after work or next weekend for half what I'd pay his employer. All we have to do is get through the week without hot water. Fortunately, this weekend's big chore was weeding stackes of paper, and I found my missing gym membership card. I've gone for one shower, now I might continue going for classes. Also, I got my roommate 4 3-day guest passes, so I think we're good. It'll be a pain for awhile but I'm pretty sanguine. It's like camping ::shrug:: it isn't such a bad thing to be reminded how nice it is to have things we usually take for granted. I could do without yet another house expense though. SIGH.

Oh yeah, I have to e the ex and find out about the hot water tank/solar array link. What do I/plumber need to be careful of, if anything.
The poison oak on my hands hasn't spread much, thanks to steriod cream, though now there's a blob of it on the tip of my nose. Oh, it's lovely. Also, on my right ear lobe. Ugh. Nature's chemical warfare is nasty.
in which I answer the good questions from Jonquil.

1. What brought you to California?
My sisters are here. I was in a bad way in PA and it was an out.

2. What attracted you to hiking? If you've been hiking all your life, what do you love about it?
It’s home, more than any house I’ve lived in. You can look and do and be, and not have to talk.

3. How did you find out about b.org?
Blame Cofax, whom I’ve known for years. “You watch a show called BtVS??!” “It’s smart and well written! David Bianculli likes it, too.” I started watching in Season 3. Then, some of her Internet friends hot tubbed at my house. I met them at her house. “Buffista” is in her vocabulary, but I didn’t get it, even after a brief description. Eventually, I googled & found the site. AHA!

4. What's a makai?
It’s a Hawaiian word. Places are either makai, “toward the ocean,” or mauka, “toward the mountain/volcano.”

I dive with Dive Makai, http://www.divemakai.com/, when I’m on the Big Island. (They taught the Pixar gang to dive. That’s their boat in Finding Nemo. The reef, the drop off, the way it looks when you're underwater - it's all exactly right.)

5. (from Ericaceous) Whom should I be reading from your friendslist?
Jesse and msbelle. Also, marthac -- her few posts are droll & well written. She moved to the Bay Area recently, is a good friend of msbelle’s, and works at the university near you. Actually, I need to add her myself. I link from msbelle because marthac writes so seldom, but it’d be super if that changed!
