One year, several rounds of antibiotics, a surgical procedure involving blood tests, anesthesia, Xrays, and lavage, my cat Ben still has one (not two) frequently stuffed-up nasal passage. What the vet said today? He might be allergic to fish. BWAHAHAHA!! This is the cat who had cat acne when he was an adolescent. If any cat has allergies, it'll be him. I finally found kibble without fish oil or fish meal in it, and will start testing this theory.

I've finally given into being willing to spend whatever it takes to fix house stuff. An electrician was there all day, and the *rilly* big news: hot tub relay fixed! I even had the part on a shelf and didn't know it! Now to drop some big bucks on replacement water tanks and other plumbing matters and I can rev it up again.

Last Saturday, I took Theodosia, suelac and another friend hiking and to a hot tub place, then we crammed, then stretched, into a oddly shaped booth at Bubba's diner for lunch. Note to self: hiking is ALWAYS a good thing and with friends and hot tubbing, even better. One of my past meditation hikers wrote a poem about an ancient giant madrone tree that we visited while hiking, but I can't find it. Drat. Sunday, I worked all day, then went to a neighborhood peace potluck. I love Northern Calif. I met Sunshine, and Trout, and a bunch of other new neighbors.

Knowing neighbors still feels like a foreign concept to me, even as I get embroiled in the lives of neighbors I've known and liked for a long time. "Normal" is still defined as no closer than 1/3 to 1/2 mile away from my house, the way I grew up, and living inside city limits still feels like a compromise.

RANT: The owners of the two houses across the street ripped out the private garden in front of the front house. They used to be able to keep their blinds open 24/7 and look out their windows onto a private, private garden. Now anyone walking by can look into their windows. I used to look at the outside of garden, a beautiful tall green wall, and easily be able to see the stars from my yard. Now I look at them in person and their horrible bright lights. It's these folks: http://www.inspired-environments.com/ Feh. They took something that had charm and character and turned it to something ordinary, a picket fence with a sod lawn, eliminating privacy in the process.
Not too surprising given the choices.
