A couple of boxes of codes arrived for our library last week, and I'm opening them and putting them away now. It's interesting to see what chunks of statutory law are getting the most attention in a given administration. I'm putting away a chunk of the Calif. Education Code, which has been almost completely re-done under the Gray Davis administration. The U.S. Code on Health and Welfare was almost completely re-done in 1995 under Clinton, and now a big chunk is being re-done again under Shrub. The U.S. Code on War and National Defense had a start on replacement in 1991 under GHW Bush and the rest of the code was replaced this year under Shrub.
I don't think there's a 1-1 correlation, because the mechanics of the book publishing business figures into it, but it's still interesting and probably indicitive of political leanings.
